Day 1 & Day 2: Nairobi – Drive to Meru National Park

Today after breakfast be drive to Meru National Park. The park lies in the north-eastern lowlands below the Nyambeni hills. Meru forms part of a larger wilderness area along the Tana River, including Bisanadi and Mwingi National Reserves, Kora national park and Rahole national reserve.

The wetter north-western sector is hilly, with rich volcanic soils. Numerous permanent streams cross the Park, and three large rivers straddle the reserve: the Tana to the south, the Ura to the south-west and the Rojeweru to the east.

The park was made famous by the writings of Joy Adamson, most noted for her book Born Free, the true story of Elsa, the lioness, and her return into the wild.

During ‘spice’ game drive the wildlife you are likely to in Meru include: Over 400 bird species have been recorded. You should see: Baboon; Buffalo; Bushbuck; Duiker, Eland; Elephant, Gazelle, Genet, Gerenuk; Giraffe, Hartebeest and Hippo.

Other animals include: Hyena, Hyrax, Impala; Jackal, Kudu, Lion; Mongoose, Vervet Monkey, Oribi; Oryx, Steenbok; Suni, Warthog; Waterbuck and Zebra. Day 3: Meru National Park – Drive to Samburu Game Reserve
Depart in the Morning by road to Samburu Game Reserve located at the North rugged Semi desert region. Samburu Game Reserve is a wild and little visited region, well known for spectacular scenery and wildlife not found in the south: Reticulated Giraffe, the rare Grevy’s Zebra with its large furry ears, the gerenuk Antelope standing on its hind legs to feed and Somali Ostriches with their distinctive blue legs.

Lunch upon arrival at your lodge then proceed on a ‘Spice’ game drive.Overnight at Samburu Lodge or Sarova Shaba Lodge, Meal Plan {Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner}

Day 4: Explore Samburu Game Reserve
Full day in Samburu with morning and afternoon ‘Spice’ game drives. You may see Elephants, Cheetah, Leopard, Eland, Oryx, Impala, Dikdik, Waterbuck and a variety of birds. This lava plain includes a varied landscape of red dirt, thorn scrub, broken volcanic rock, dried riverbeds, steep hills and rocky outcroppings.

Following the river’s curves, a forest of Doum Palms, Acacia and tamarind is a magical contrast of cool green. Other areas of the Reserve include the Uaso Nyiro River where crocodiles sun bath themselves on the banks. It also provides an oasis for a variety of game.

Birds are abundant, with 365 species recorded, one for every day of the year. In between the game drives, there is an opportunity to visit a Samburu village at an additional cost.Overnight at Samburu Lodge or Sarova Shaba Lodge

Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve – Drive to Mount Kenya Safari Club

Day 6: Mount Kenya Safari Club – Drive to Sweetwaters Game Sanctuary
This morning we proceed to Sweetwaters Game reserve. Both Sweetwaters land, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy and its sumptuous ranch were once the private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi.

We visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimps, and the specially protected and fenced refuge of black rhino with its stunning forty specimens! In fact salt lick so we’ll be guaranteed unprecedented close encounters.
Whether its day or night game drives, camel trekking, lion tracking, al fresco dining or relaxing by pool, Sweetwaters is bound to delight.
